Teaching performance and emotional intelligence. A systematic review

Keywords: Teaching performance, emotional intelligence, university education, (UNESCO Thesaurus).

Abstract

The purpose of this article was to analyze the relationship between teaching performance and the development of emotional intelligence in the field of university education. As a methodology, a documentary review of articles from journals indexed in Scielo, Redalyc and Scopus was used. Among the results, it was highlighted that emotionally competent teachers have achieved a more empathetic, communicative, and motivating classroom climate. Likewise, teaching performance has been strengthened when the teacher develops emotional competencies such as empathy, self-regulation, intrinsic motivation, and social skills. Finally, it was concluded that emotional intelligence has been a determining factor in university educational practice since it has influenced both the quality of the teaching-learning process and the well-being of teachers and students.
