Recruitment of minors into organized crime and the relationship with their non-accountability
Abstract
The objective of this research was to analyze the recruitment of minors into organized crime and its relationship to their legal incapacity to stand trial. Methodologically, the research adopted a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques to analyze the recruitment of minors into organized crime and its relationship to their legal incapacity to stand trial. The results of the study indicated that the recruitment of minors by criminal organizations is a widespread practice, especially in marginalized or conflict-affected areas. Minors are primarily used to traffic drugs, carry out violent crimes such as murder or extortion, and in some cases, as drug mules or for forced labor. In conclusion, the lack of a specialized and rehabilitative approach can condemn them to a life of criminalization, replicating the cycle of poverty, violence, and crime into which they are born.
