Criminal Responsibility Based on Legal Age in Light of Rising Crime Rates in Ecuador
Abstract
The objective of this study was to analyze criminal responsibility based on legal age in relation to the rise in crime in Ecuador. The methodology employed a qualitative approach based on the review and analysis of documentary and statistical sources, including a documentary analysis of Ecuadorian legislation. The results and analysis of the cases presented in this study show that the lack of access to educational and employment opportunities, as well as the absence of effective social protection programs, are determining factors that contribute to the recruitment of children and adolescents by armed groups. Therefore, it is essential to address the underlying causes of this phenomenon, such as poverty, social exclusion, and a lack of future prospects. In conclusion, it is suggested that further analysis be conducted on the causes and consequences of the recruitment of children and adolescents by armed groups, as well as an evaluation of the effectiveness of the prevention measures implemented.
