Importance of pictograms for pre-reading initiation

Abstract

Reading, apart from stimulating multiple skills and cognitive processes, is the basis of human communication. That is why it is essential, from the early stages of school life, compulsory or not, the development of processes framed in pre-reading with relevant strategies for it. From this context, the following article is presented with the purpose of describing the importance of pictograms for the beginning of pre-reading. As for the methodology, this was defined as a documentary type study, developed at a descriptive level and based on a bibliographic design. Finally, it can be stated that the pictogram, being a graphic symbology capable of transmitting a message, is a powerful strategy for the development of children as readers in their first school stages. Thus, pictograms provide verbal language with structure and regulation, contributing to the learning of pre-reading skills.
